Farewell Baby

As part of my move, I have to say a sad goodbye to my baby.

I'm selling my 1990 Toyota Cressida - 190 hp! L@@K! All for the low price of < $2k. Canadian!

It just doesn't make sense to transport my car all the way down to California. Plus, I think they have much more stringent air pollution standards that my car may not meet.

So will I buy a new car? No. I plan on using public transportation, company provided transportation, and renting on those weekends where I go on a road-trip.

Yeah man, get a Hummer!

Then use it to populate the highways with roadkill.

And maybe pick up babes on the beaches. You could fit a lot of girls in one of those babies.

Well I was thinking of getting a nice new car, especially since they are so much cheaper down here than in Canada. However... the total cost of ownership is just too high.

Insurance, parking, car payments, and gas, never mind maintenance!

No thanks.

Besides wouldn't I have to be buffed up before getting a Hummer?

You could get a Prius?

Sorry to hear that you have to let go of an old friend...one that took you to places where you have many great memories. Just hope those memories aren't of the repair bills from driving a 1990 car :-)

I was thinking of the Prius!

My company gives a $5k discount if I get a new one... but it still adds up to about $25k.

If you want a car for a less expensive, efficient and economical vehicle, why not try a slightly used late-model Toyota Yaris?

It will cost half as much as the Prius, use only about 10-15 percent more gas, likely be reliable throughout the life of the car, and avoid the potential long-term cost of having to replace the hybrid batteries.

By the way, the 1990 Toyota Cressida is one of my favourite cars. I've always admired the subtle styling. I've heard the inline 6 engine is great, aside from potential gasket failures.
