Jasper, Hinton, Mercoal - ATV Adventure

Suffering from mild jetlag, I set off to Jasper, then Hinton to pick up some ATVs. From there Indesin and I rode all the way out past Mercoal. We did get hung up a couple times in boggy marsh like areas, and I got high-centered on fallen tree trunks, but the winches worked beautifully.
It was quite interesting to see some old abandoned and decaying log cabins in the woods, where pioneers had once set up camp to cut down timbers for coal mine construction. Of course, coal was like the Internet-dot-com business of yesteryear. Prices fell, the industry burst, and companies folded.

From Sweden to Jasper? Man you sure do get around. Sounds like fun though. I should do that one day. I'm already on the west side of Edmonton....

Yeah I'm feeling the travel-pains but it is worth it to be back home.

I haven't been to Jasper when it wasn't winter for over 5 years, so it was very nice to see the scenary without being covered in snow.

The ATV experience can be obtained by contacting CRA (Canadian Rocky Adventures). It costs about $250 per person for a full 6-hour trip.

Buying a quad yourself will set you back about $8000 on the lower end of something that will get you through the bush. And then without a guide it's easy to get lost.

Oh man! That's positively red-neck of you! Is that a gun-rack I spy in one of those pictures? You look like you're ready to embark on some serious huntn' with your mountain-folk kin. Yeee-haw!

Looks like fun. I'm just jealous :P

Wish Ind well for me. Cheers!

Did you play any banjos and drink malt liquor while riding the ATVs?

That would probably be a lot of fun, even though you kind of look ticked in the first picture.

I just squint when I'm looking into the sun. I guess that makes me look ticked, but I wasn't.

Hey we didn't have any guns, at least I don't think we did. You may think we're a bunch of rednecks in Alberta but it just isn't true you English scone!

Sorry I don't know any pejorative terms for Englishmen.

Man, I did that one summer as a job... I couldn't believe that I got paid to rip around those bogs on ATVs...

Ah, Mercoal. That brings back memories from my teenage years, when I would spend countless hours exploring the hidden trails and old roads out there with a friend. You could be lost for hours at a time.
