GI Joe Utterly Defiled

I remember fondly days spent pitting GI Joe against Cobra... I think everyone liked snake-eyes and stormshadow. Even back then we knew ninjas were cool. And with these memories, it is fun to look back and recall those fun and naive times.

But I don't think that GI Joe was meant to be defiled in this way. Some enterprising individuals took it upon themselves to show us our childhood heroes in ways that both scare and confuse.

Actually, I don't think the 'remixes' are as funny/ludicrous as the real Gi Joe message. Sometimes, they'd chastise children about stealing. Sometimes they'd recommend an apple.

Whatever it was, it was always weird, and so completely out of place for the Army to be talking to children.

What if the US military in Guantanamo Bay gave educational tips? 'Make that prisoner eat his own shit, Billy!'

I guess I always accepted everything I saw on TV as the truth. I mean, didn't we all believe that the guns really shot and the cars really drove themselves just like they did in the commercials?

Although, I have to say, the latent homosexuality is damn funny. How could we have missed that stuff when we were kids? Seemed to happen alot in the eighties too, I remember the Dungeon Master in the D&D Cartoon was a fruity little gnome-thing.

Still, the caroons from that era were still some the the coolest ever. Still trying to see the rest of the Visionaries series.

If you ever do get a hold of that series, make sure you share! Personally I really liked that one. Of course, I also like MASK, GIJOE, and some other inane shows where there was a space cowboy named "Bluegrass" or something equally silly. Not to mention inspector gadget, thundercats, he-man ...

So in retrospect I really have to question how good Visionaries will really be when we watch it without the sugar-high-haze of our childhood.

I've got a couple of visionaries episodes on my laptop.

They are *amazing*. Great animation, classic good vs. evil conflict. I dunno, man, it's still the best 80's cartoon.

If you want 'em, I could try and send a couple to you.
